Window World of Cedar Rapids Takes Part in the Especially for You® Race

A record-setting 15,800 people registered to take part in 2022’s Especially for You® Race Against Breast Cancer. This year’s 32nd annual race surpassed 2011’s previously set record of 15,792. The race raised close to half a million dollars in race registration proceeds from this year’s race. 

To show support, 24 local Window World of Cedar Rapids staff and family members took part in the race together. We’re proud to take part in such a worthy cause, especially since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Showing our support for those diagnosed with breast cancer and survivors this month is the least we can do!  

“My family and I have participated in many Breast Cancer Walks/Races over the years. These walks/races like the Especially for You Race work in our local communities to bring awareness, share education and provide support groups for not only those diagnosed with breast cancer, but the screening and diagnostic testing in determining breast cancer. We have been profoundly affected by the multiple friends and family members diagnosed with this disease over the years, but then in October of 2018 I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. My family, along with many friends, walked together in a Breast Cancer Race 3 days after my first chemo treatment. The emotions were very high that day, but the fellowship and support of my friends and family as well as so many other survivors is something that just can’t be explained. It is just that powerful. I had so many other survivors reach out and invite me to share in their journey, so I knew I wasn’t alone, and I was able to ask any question, no matter how personal. The support and education these organizations provide was essential in my journey. I am now 4 years out from my diagnosis and have ‘No evidence of Disease’ or NED in my journey with breast cancer. My family and I continue to support organizations such as Especially for You, so others like me will have the resources to get tested and have the support of this wonderful community of Heroes and Survivors.” – Heather Koenig, Owner of Window World of Cedar Rapids

What is the Especially for You® Fund?

Since 1991, the Especially for You® Fund has worked to provide area individuals in need with free gynecological and breast-care services like mammograms. The race and fund were created in memory of Sandy Knight, an area woman who died at an early age due to breast cancer. It was her wish that a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness and education be founded and 32 years later, it’s still going strong. 

Life-saving procedures like yearly mammograms go a long way toward helping early detection, but mammograms are not always easily available. For those in need, the Especially for You® fund is there to lend a helping hand. In fact, since its founding, Especially for You® has helped more than 12,400 individuals in need receive necessary services.

Doing Our Part to Help 

Window World is proud to help participate in and fund charitable endeavors. Our franchises are run by individuals who support their own specific causes, often locally-based charitable organizations like Especially for You®. On a national level, we also have Window World Cares, the charitable arm of Window World, Inc. Through this, we help fund research at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
